Many Months Later

Hey kids,
I tried and failed to keep up with this when I was studying for exams - and have been even worse since (sorry) but no matter, as I've haven't been up to too much crochet-wise. Here are a brief few yarn-baking-sewing tales from the last few months . . . .

The Japan event was a success! We raised .........

How fantastic is that?

I made some earings, badges, and other bits and pieces as well as about 60 cupcakes with Maja until about 1am (thank-you, you excellent woman) . I had some magnificent helpers like Jenna and Tori (to die for Hummingbird Bakery cupcakes), as well as Rianna, Ross (staple oatmeal cookies), Rosie W, Debbie, Wilf and all the rest of the MODO gang who did an amazing job either selling hard or baking or bringing things. Thankyou thankyou thankyou. Here are just some of the things which hopefully helped bring in the dollar. . .

Some of the Creme-egg cosies which sold for £3 each.

Badges - were between 50p and £1 depending on the time of day!

I'm forever making button earrings - theyre just so easy. If you would like a pair, gimme a shout...

More badges....

A tea-cup pincushions -  a little too much time spent on this as it only went for £5, as did the bunny. But no matter, every little helped that day!
My fabulous Rianna doing an amazing job manning the stall all day and selling her socks off!

In more recent news, I bought a HUGE BOX OF YARN! from Ebay, £20, Bargain. Even though the wool isn't the best quality in the world, the colours and weight are just perfect for a bit of fun. I tried to upload a picture to give you an idea of the scale of the HUGE BOX and how much yarn fits inside it, but the internet isn't allowing me to do so again.

I went to pick the box up from a chap who lived down the road and was so excited when I got home that I knocked up this tea cosy in about 30 minutes flat. It's just a really simple rectangle made in repeating shells of 5 dc into a sc (or the middle dc), with a gap for the spout and a simple ch stich tie finished with a rustic looking button (which, in fact, is vinyl, and I have about 100 bought from a £1 shop in Palmers Greek). Let me know if you want one - as I say - I have lots and lots of lovely wool for projects just like these.

Secondly, I had been working on a project for my friend Rajee - he needed a dress for the beautiful Vicky Bond to dance in on a beach. We thought flowing chiffons would be best for flying about and catching the wind. Here's the first attempt at this dress, which I can't say has progressed too much since May, but I assure you will be completed soon (promise Rajee!)

Third - Rajee and a bit of James Ho did an amazing job on a photoshoot with a few of my dresses from this year's MODO Fashion show. I think the composition and colour of the photos are just great (here are just two from a beautiful seleciton of over 70), and of course the model (Allie Thur) and make-up too (the lovely Siobhan Morrin) are wonderful, as usual.

We also had a recent shoot with Becca Odedun with a slightly different feel, a bit darker and more edgy (hopefully) and I'm super excited to see the results.

Lastly (phew!): I discovered a shop in Waltham Abbey, tucked away on a cobbled street, beneath a crumbling arcg, only accessible via cobbled passageways. It specifically caters for our underground clan of crocheters. It's called The Crochet Chain and the staff were so helpful - great range of extremely reasonably priced yarns as well as the largest collection of crochet books I've ever seen. I was only there for half an hour, but I must say it's the most wonderful place I've been to in ages. Check it out if you're in the North London 'burbs.

I bought a fantastic book called Everyday Crochet as well as some beautiful marbled yarn for a new, secret project of mine. I know the book looks a bit on the fuddy-duddy side of things, but I can assure you with the right yarn, the wearing these designs won't make you look like a granny from the 90s.

Byeee then.xx
